Treading Water

Often we feel immersed in the heavy weight of problems and doubts. And lately, a sense of anxiety is becoming increasingly common among young people. Calmness of spirit is what we desperately seek the most in those moments. Even though it may seem difficult to find, sometimes the response and escape rely on natural sounds. Nothing more than flowing water can make us feel relaxed instantly. And the soundscape artist Molteno portrays this feeling perfectly in her latest undercurrent  remix of her single “Treading Water.” Mental health is a common theme among the latest generations. We all care about our state of mind more than ever. Because the majority of us know what it means to shake on a bathroom floor, and in those moments, it seems incredibly difficult to find peace. We just let our heads drown. But what about, instead of going underwater, closing our eyes and covering our ears with water while we float on the surface? It may seem silly to just “float,” but I feel that nothing is more reassuring than just the water running beside us. Even though we are not getting out of that, it means accepting what we are going through and just letting it flow. Molteno, with haunting vocals and cinematic basslines, feels like a deep breath while we are missing peace. Her music is incredibly involving and fascinating, making the listener feel part of the track. This new version of the single captures together the dyad of fragility and strength that is often found in our daily lives.
