Number eleven. Perhaps it’s weighted purely thanks to that Netflix show which they just can’t stop coming back to. Well that’s the theme here too, but this is way hotter, I mean of course it is, it’s What Burning 11.
Coined ‘Melancholic Soul’ as by his project with Bristol’s Green Brick Records back in 2021, Mac Lloyd has been bringing that provocative sound for a while now, and I couldn’t think of a better way to describe it. EP after EP, but now with another full album expected later this month; ‘Over the Mill’ is my chosen precursor, which has the undergrowth bopping to a tiny band in the remaining sunlight.
The whole thing is 3ree. Whilst you’re button-mashing on EA’s latest skateboarding game, Skott 3ree has been grinding a different rail this year, lining up his fourth single so far ‘SKATE 3REE’. It was about time to revisit this freezing cold world, which is rapidly melting due to both the heat from Skott’s mic, which he shares here with Chills Myth, and your country’s politicians’ private jets
Slight coming of age vibe with this one; one of, if not my favourite emcee that I’ve seen come up on our great rock. Clbrks has always dressed his societal findings head to toe in humour, which only adds to their poignancy. ‘Talking to the Echoes’ sees him join forces with producer Kurt Terese and embrace how things have changed with each sun-rotation; ‘Pears’ is as hot as that big star.
Despite this being from last year, the hook has only really found its way to me in the last couple months. Brighton’s Oxomo and his last album ‘Out the Loop’ really summed up how I felt coming back to a scene which embodied my youth. And of course with the beauty of that certain sight maybe the journey would have differed- ‘Hindsight’ is what’s burning, melting into my brain.
The theme has been checking back in with artists, so why stop now. Caneva another one I’ve enjoyed watching grow into a solid emcee and now producer. Masked up usually in silk, his latest drop ‘PLAGUE DOCTOR’ continues his concealed legacy in atmospheric fashion, as the confidence on the mic hots up as does the completeness of each beat and its enveloping qualities.
