Omen

Waking up in a usual morning, going to the bathroom and staring at the image in the mirror. Starting a dialogue with it as if it is a different person, perhaps it is. The awareness that what we hope is not always what will happen. This is what we need to realise with our inner self. An omen often foresees this. Despite our prayers and desires, we usually already know how a certain thing will end. A mantra takes place in our mind, constantly repeating the phrases “tell me it won’t be long, tell me I’ll be wrong” as the refrain of the song “Omen” states. Written and sung by the London artist Shy Puma, this song perfectly illustrates this controversial aspect of believing and hoping. Driven by a slow and dreamy R&B setting, the lyrics of the artist are valued and framed. In the outro of the song, it almost seems like a spoken word text, immersing the listener into a stream of self-conscious dimension even more.
