Open Your Mouth!
We get Jack Williams straight from the EP cover; this guy knows exactly what he’s doing. “Open Your Mouth!” is jazz with a wink, a smirk, and just enough swagger to make you pay attention. It’s not about reverence for the past, but about dragging the genre into the present with charm and confidence. The sound is casual, ironic, and completely on point. There’s a lo-fi warmth throughout, especially in the Synthier version, where the drums hit with a compact, modern punch. The mix feels deliberate without being uptight, balancing looseness and control in a way that mirrors the record’s whole aesthetic. What’s brilliant is the ambiguity. Is Jack meticulously crafting every moment, or is this just what naturally spills out of him? Either way, it works. There’s humour, boldness, and a clear sense of direction, all without begging for approval. “Open Your Mouth!” doesn’t shout for your attention. It trusts you’ll find it, and when you do, it offers something genuinely stylish, a little strange, and full of personality. It’s jazz, reimagined with a grin.
