Speed Racer

The passing of time, whether we perceive it as slow or fast, never stops. Life often feels like it’s flashing by through the window of a speeding car, and that is exactly what “Speed Racer” captures. First released in 1990 on Fernanda Abreu’s solo debut, the track embodied the thrill of acceleration and the blur of urban life. Three and a half decades later, Swedish DJ and producer Anna-My reimagines it for a new era, leaning into that momentum rather than taming it. With pulsing synths and a bass line that feels both urgent and fluid, her remix keeps the chaos intact while opening it up with hypnotic house textures, making space for Abreu’s deep Portuguese vocals to hold the track steady at its core. Anna-My calls the remix “my little tribute to her,” admitting she was “over the moon” when Abreu went back into the studio in Rio to re-record vocals and bass for the project. That exchange turns the track into more than an update; it becomes an act of surrender to speed itself, a recognition that the world outside the car window will always blur no matter the weather or destination. In this sense, “Speed Racer” is less about nostalgia and more about motion. It reminds us that even when life seems to hurtle forward without direction, it is the act of driving through it that keeps us alive.
